    Default Sig 2022 .40 S&W>>>>>Should I?

I've been poking around at getting a new pistol. I don't need one but I WANT one that looks good, is reliable, affordable and uses .40 S&W.

Looked at a police trade in 96D but I'm not sure I like the whole double action only thing. So I am leaning towards a NIB Sig 2022 in .40

Any one own one that can give good recommendations? Photos to compare size? (I have large paws!) Any info appreciated!

I have a 96D Centurion. I was surprised at how well I could shoot a DAO pistol, having no problems chasing 20 oz plastic soda bottles around the 25 yd berm, from 15 yds to as far as 50 yds once they went flying. Call me old school, but I'll take a Beretta 96(F or D, no matter) or a SIG 229 over a 2022 any day. Over at the SIG forum, I get the impression that the 2022 isn't the pistol that the older P-series are, but the 2022 does have a following. JMO and experience.

That's what I'm afraid of...it has the Sig name but looks to be cheapened up compared to a Beretta 96D.

Does the 96D have a regular safety lever or just rely on double action?

I have never been a DAO fan, so that would be out of the question for me. My first issue handgun was a DAO and it destroyed the whole DA trigger thing for me... LOL

That being said, I love Sig's, but have not been enamored with their polymer guns. I've not heard much good about them, though they probably work fine. That being said, check out aimsurplus.com. If i'm not mistaken, they just got a bunch of police trade 229's for $400. I checked their website though, and they aren't showing up, so they may be all gone already. You should be able to find a decent used 229 or possibly a 226 in .40 for less then $450. A little time spent on gunbroker.com might be time well spent. Aimsurplus is listing S&W M&P 40 trade ins for $379 which would also be a nice shooter at a good price.

Good info...I am in love with the Sig's look but M&P's are nice too. I hate decisions! LOL

FWIW I've been tempted by these polymer Sigs on a few occasions. If you like DA/SA it might be a good choice. Also, you can get a .357 sig barrel for it, which is exciting.

They certainly aren't the Classic Series, but I think they offer a good value, especially used. Everytime I've seen a used one I've been tempted to jump on it, if just because the price.

The 96D has no lever, at least on mine it doesn't. Does the trade-in look like this one?

"D" models have no lever. There's no need for it. The "D" models operate just like a DA revolver in DA mode -- pull the trigger, hammer cocks and falls. Then the slide cycles, kicks the hammer back, and the hammer rides the slide forward, ready for another shot.

DA revolvers don't have a safety, and the 92D/96D pistols work the same way.

Very close to that...I am going to look at it this weekend.

Yeah, that's what I thought. I haven't fondled one yet but I'm not sure I like that. I like a semi auto with a safety lever. Think 1911! Just the way I have always trained. DAO is strange to me.

I have a S&W M&P .40 & I love it. Shoots great & has never malfuntioned once in the 1 1/2 years I've owned it & I've shot it a lot. My son shot mine & liked it so much he went out & bought one for himself just last month
