So the short answer is if it is a national park and you have a permit and a building has a warning saying no firearms then you cannot carry a firearm.

Recently I went to the Everglades National Park. They have a tram ride. I went to buy a ticket and the ticket office and souvenir shop said no firearms allowed past this point. So I bought tickets and then got my revolver.

That’s because there is nothing illegal about carrying on the battlefields....or any other NPS outdoor property. Inside federal buildings though is off limits entirely.

It just pisses me off that while I was studiously seeking to avoid a scene, the chuckleheads most responsible for keeping things calm could be so stupid. Physical wreck that I am, I did a pretty fair job of shutting this bystander up and left him feeling stupid. Most important to me is that I avoided and ugly scene in front of my kids as well as his.
You are closer to the other person in line than you may think.

There is a big sign outside the door of that building that says no firearms.
With a LTCF, you can carry outside in a national park, you can't carry in any established buildings in a national park (you can use the can if it's just a stand alone bathroom in a park).
Technically, you broke the law by entering the building armed and approaching the people at the metal detector.
If someone wanted to be a hero they could have arrested you on the spot.
When you carry it's your responsibility to know the laws, to be well informed, and to always, always, always read the signs.
I'm glad it did not end badly for you, please be more careful in the future.
And no matter what my girlfriend tells you, that guy walking around the park is not the original Benjamin Franklin :P

The last time I was there, the only history plaques I saw were how it was a symbol of the oppression of blacks and that the founding fathers were assholes. These days, it will only piss most of us off.

The rules are pretty simple, and haven't changed recently.

Federal buildings, including NPS buildings where employees regularly work, are off limits. They ARE required to be posted. A LCTF or other permit doesn't matter. I believe LEOSA does apply.

The Liberty Bell pavilion is a NPS building where employees regularly work. It is posted. It has a guard force that checks bags.
If you don't understand these rules, PLEASE stop carrying a gun. You jeopardize yourself and all of us with the negative press.

BTW - I saw the bell again on Saturday, while carrying. There's a really nice window on the side of the pavilion you can look through and skip all the security BS.
