Re: Concealed carry at the Liberty Bell
Was at the Bell on Friday. I was not carrying. As i went through the guard did not wand nor search me. I had a cell phone, wallet, glass case, and even a mini umbrella in my pockets. (had on cargo shorts) If walked through a scanner it should have picked up the metal. They did search my wife's handbag.

Re: Concealed carry at the Liberty Bell
I was in the LB building 9 months ago with a guest from out of town.
No wand or detector, BUT the guard on duty wanted me and my friend to raise our jackets up to see the waistline area. I knew this was coming in advance, so I wasn't carrying (plus we were going to do the whole historical tourist deal and I didn't want to deal with this).
So:
1. Hard to say if all guards ask the same thing, or if there's variation.
2. If I really cared to, I could have carried via ankle holster, Smart Carry, pocket carry, possibly even shoulder holster if I could raise coat plus cover shirt in such a way as not to expose (I think so).

Re: Concealed carry at the Liberty Bell
As I've seen, the actual Liberty Bell pavilion does not normally use magnometers, however they do visually inspect bags.
I've also seen them ask for some large coats to be opened. I have gone though and I am 100% sure that if someone wanted to carry undetected, they could. However, because I am a law abiding gun owner, I do not. I have CC'd on Independence Plaza, but only OUTSIDE the buildings.

Re: Concealed carry at the Liberty Bell
What really amazes me is that as legal cc's we are not trusted by our own government to carry a handgun while visiting the "LIBERTY BELL" is it just me or is something radically wrong w/ our country??????? I for one have no desire to go anywhere in this country, especially phila or N.Y. w/o some type of protection, so screw seeing the LIBERTY BELL OR LADY LIBERTY. SEEMS LIKE MISNOMERS TO ME!!!!!!!!!

Re: Concealed carry at the Liberty Bell
I'm sure this has been challenged. What case decided that it was OK for the federal government to restrict firearms in all federal buildings. The second amendment was specifically written so the federal government could right no law infringing on the right to bear arms.
I'll vote for Romney when he promises not to run in 2016.

Re: Concealed carry at the Liberty Bell
Yea I thought the same thing. I am visiting the birthplace of our nation where The Bill of Rights was written and in the buildings the Fed curtails the 2nd one. I should have worn a shirt that said (I think a slogan from the NRA) "The 2nd Amendment insures that all the others are followed."
BTW, I thought that the park area had a lot of armed guards with M&P's. I even saw a National Park Ranger with one on his side. I did not know Park Service Rangers were armed.

Re: Concealed carry at the Liberty Bell
I fully intended to check in advance but never got around to it. When I got to Independence Hall and saw the metal detector I quietly walked up to the security guard manning it and said "I have a carry permit does that make a difference?" and gave it to her to see. She has no clue what it was. A PA permit, so no reason to not be familiar with it, and no reciprocity discussion. She hands it to her partner, he's not much smarter and asks "what is this for?" I said firearms and immediately the cock knocker next to me grabs his kid closer and loudly calls out "you have a gun?" Still intent on not causing a scene, i told him it's one of the rights that was won here, and I am properly licensed for it. I'm not a threatening looking guy, I look many years older than I am, and there with wife and to school age daughters. I look more like the grandfather type sightseeing with the grandkids. Oh, and I move pretty slowly and am standing there hunched over my walker, pretty worn out from the long walk to get this far and trying not to fall. I have no problem with the restriction and am grateful for any measure to keep me and my family safe.
I am the bonehead who forgot to check in advance. I often go to Gettysburg and have never had a problem with the NPS. They have lightened up considerably in recent years on the occasional reenactor who forgets himself and brings a holstered pistol on to the grounds. What used to get you stuffed and cuffed is now more likely to be an escort back to your car then off the battlefield.
It just pisses me off that while I was studiously seeking to avoid a scene, the chuckleheads most responsible for keeping things calm could be so stupid. Physical wreck that I am, I did a pretty fair job of shutting this bystander up and left him feeling stupid. Most important to me is that I avoided and ugly scene in front of my kids as well as his.

There always has to be an idiot in the crowd!
What was your outcome there? Did I miss it somewhere?
