Default Looking for a conceal carry gun

Hey there...new to the forum, but not too new to guns (though to this point I have been more into shotguns for trap shooting). A friend of mine has talked me into (with very little convincing, haha) concealed carry. While I'm pretty sure I know what I want, I would like to get some opinions and feedback on what other members' favorite carry guns may be. My only criteria is that the gun is American made, a popular cal (.380, 9mm, .40, .45), and is not a revolver. Thanks ahead of time for any and all suggestions.

Anything made by Kahr would be a good place to start. My usual carry is the CW40. If you want something smaller, check out the PM and new CM series. Headquarters are in NY, production and assembly in MA.

While there are tons of good choices out there I'll second the nod to Kahr. I have two and I'm very happy with both. They seem to have perfected the size/weight/capacity/shootability/comfort ratio. Again though, it's all really personal preference. Get out and look at as many guns as you can, shoot them if possible.

Also remember, you'll need holsters, a good belt, extra mags, mag carriers, ammo, and a class or two (or more). So there's more to it than just a gun. You don't want to skimp on this stuff. This is something that comes up often here. You really shouldn't put your $500 gun in a $12 holster.

And since we were talking about Kahrs here's my pair.

Good luck with the hunt. Come back and show us what you decide on.

Ruger SR9c is the ideal carry gun. American made. Plenty of safety features and ultra reliable and accurate with plenty of firepower with a 10rd compact magazine and additional 17rd full size magazine.

    Aren't their American made Glocks?

...or is "American made" only applicable if the companies HQ is in US soil?

Also agree with the Kahr. Be sure to check out the MK, PM, and CM series.

M&P9/40/357 compact or full size whichever you prefer. American made, reliable, nice gun and simple. Go to the LGS and pick up a few different ones see what feels best, if all else fails a 3,4 or5" 1911 is a great choice.
    Why no revolvers?

Love my Kahr PM9... you can get almost the same gun for less money in a CM9 but make sure you understand the differences. Keltec has some cheap but still relatively decent carry guns as well. My keltec p3at is a great knife fighting gun and an occasional carry.

The're just not cool. They don't appear in music videos. They don't hold 15 or more rds.

My favorite carry pieces are wheelguns.
