    Default Barska scopes

Looking to purchase a scope for a remington 700. Anyone have any input on Barska Scopes. Are they as cheaply made as they are priced? Any problems with them? Thanks

    Barska = Craptacular.

The recoil of an AR15 breaks most of them within a couple of shots. I predict a Remington 700 could easily break a Barska on the first shot. Then you're $89.95 further in the hole, towards your GOOD glass!

In the world of firearms, you GET what you pay for - and in the area of glass, that REALLY proves true. I wouldn't put anything cheaper than a Leupold on a 700, although SWFA has some NICE glass under $600 that has good reviews.

Hopefully some other 700 owners will chime in with some recommendations, but I can guarantee, they'll all chime in with a big "NO" on the Barska.

You will be much better served finding a 20-30 year old used scope than buying the cheap Chinese made, Russian named Barska!

Check out Redfield's new Revolution line of made in the USA scopes for around $180 to $250. Full lifetime warranty from a brand owned by Leupold.

Leupold is a name everyone likes to throw out... their high end stuff is awesome but their low end stuff... ehh

    or Nikon Buckmaster

If money is a serious issue check out Osprey International. I have 2 of their scopes and they work very well. One is on a pellet gun which are notorious for breaking scopes and over 2 years later its still working fine

I have a Barska on my 450 Bushmaster. That thing recoils a hell of a lot more than a 223! It only has about 150 rounds through it so far but it's holding up OK. I picked up one of their "holosight" clones for $20 at a gun show and as a goof put it on my 50AE Desert Eagle. It came apart after 3 rounds! I put it back together and it's on my 10/22 and working fine on that.

I just recently picked up a 3-7 variable power Barska for a small bore rifle.

Sighting the rifle in, I noticed a good amount of distortion in the last 1/3 to 1/4 or so of the aperture in the higher powers.

The scope came with plastic dust caps for the lenses.

The scope also came with plastic caps for the adjustment screws.

Knowing my luck with adjustment screw caps, they will become all but lost after putting them on and taking them off a few times.

After sighting in, I shot the rifle quite a bit and it didnt affect the scope at all.

But, I am shooting a small bore rifle and not a large bore centerfire.

I find the overall image to not be as clear as 'glass' ... but it is a $15 scope, so what can I expect.

Personally, I'm ok with a Barska for my plinker ... but I dont think I would want one for a centerfire.

The clarity issues would seriously frustrate me at longer ranges ( +150 yd).

If you are just 'looking for antlers' ... the Barska will probably work.

If you are looking to do some challenging shooting ... Keep saving and get some good (at least decent) glass.

btw - what caliber are you shooting? The 700 comes in everything from .17 REM to .458WM

Barska's are cheap glass. So, it is unlikely that the adjustments will be very repeatable and it is very likely that low-light performance will be less than ideal. Quality control will be a problem (you could get a lemon). Other than that, if you plan to set it and forget it will likely serve your needs. If not, not.

One thing to keep in mind - the more gadgets a scope has (tacticool anyone?) at a given price point, the less likely it isn't crappy.

I wouldn't put a Barska on a BB gun. I have had a few friends/family buy scopes from this manufacturer.... none of them lasted very long (1 - 2 trips to the range) before they were un-usable.

YMMV, but IMHO, it would be a waste of money.
