Re: Charter Arms Research
Hi Jim,
I just purchased a Charter Arms 38 undercover. 2" barrel. Blued finish. Serial # 615XXX. Barrel stamped Stratford Conn. No shroud on the ejector rod so I know it's first generation. Any idea what year it may be?? Any details appreciated. Thanks for taking the time to do this.

Re: Charter Arms Research
Here's a pic with upgraded Pachmayr Compac grips...much nicer on the hands. LOL
Of course I'll keep the originals since the gun is in such great shape.

Re: Charter Arms Research
Zip,
The data point/serial number with the closest CONFIRMED date that I have is s/n 6194xx dated to mid March 1981 - which is confirmed by the fact that CA 1st Gen. began producing stainless steel UCs in May '81 - and I have UC stainless with s/n 6259xx in my data. I'd guess that your piece with s/n 615xxx was made in Jan (late) or up to mid Feb. '81. Thanks for the pics.Last edited by 32 Magnum; January 7th, 2011 at 05:05 PM.

Re: Charter Arms Research
Very cool! Thanks for letting me know. Gave a little extra for it but got it from a friend...very low rounds and very good shape. Plus I always wanted one!

Re: Charter Arms Research
Hi Guys first post here. I have a Blued Charter Arms Bulldog 44 special with a 3 inch barrel made in Stratford Conn. serial number 718993.I think I got it in the early 80's. Can anyone help me out with a manufacture date? Thanks in advance.

Re: Charter Arms Research
The grips are also not original I have the smaller wooden grips that came on the Bulldog.

Re: Charter Arms Research
Two Guns,
My data base indicates late 1981 - early '82. Can't get any closer - don't have enough actual dates to go along with the serial numbers in that range.
Nice gun.Jim Hauff H&R Collector In memory of my friends Bill Goforth and Jim Ritchie.

Re: Charter Arms Research
BTW my Bulldog is a little bit loose as I have put atleast 3000 rounds down the tube. Some of the rounds where probley too hot. Some that I loaded up hurt so bad I had to stop shooting them. Now she only gets the softer loads. As you can see by the pics that it has been carried for many years.I always carry Winchester SilverTips in it now.
