Cabelas Hamburg PA OC OK OR NOT

I was there this saturday with wife and kids didn't see anybody OC.
Any experience from the local members ?
I was just chating on cabelas web site and asked if it was ok to OC and was told no.

Sign on the door says CC is ok. OC would need to get checked at the door to be cleared and tagged.

Nope.

Only guns coming in for service, sale, fitting holsters, etc. need to be checked and secured. Any lawful method of carry is permitted, and the manager has reiterated this repeatedly when an uninformed employee (rarely) approaches someone and tells them otherwise.

I OC there all the time, as do several guys here. No problems at all.

My understanding was that you only needed to check and tag a weapon that was being taken in for repair, or to sell or trade at the firearms counter etc etc, but that OC/CC was okay. Perhaps I have been mistaken. I have OC'ed there before without a problem, which means nothing other than I have OC'ed there without a problem.

Wrong on both acounts. It only has to be cleared and tagged if you are turning it in to get worked on. If you are carrying OC/CC for your protection it is perfectly OK. Here is Cabelas corporate policy:

Thank you for the recent email. I am very sorry for the confusion that took place at our retail location.
Our corporate office has taken action in regards to the below mentioned issue and here is what has been decided.
We have made the decision to comply with state laws in regards to open carry. We do not ask customers to check concealed or open carry weapons where the state has laws governing this situation. Our signs refer to firearms that are being returned or sold to Cabela's.

If you are still having problems please feel free to let us know

and here is my experience:

Stopped in Cabela's in Dundee to kill some time before my son got off work in Toledo to visit him before returning home. I walked in with my 1911 on my side O/Cing. The lady up front welcomed me and my gun to Cabelas and told me to enjoy my visit with them and you are more than welcome to OC. The gentleman at the front asked if i was bringing my gun in to get work done or something and I said no. He said ok have a good visit. This was a pleasant experience and I spent about a hour and half in the store. All the staff was very pleasant and said nothing about me open carrying. Thumbs up and A+ to Cabelas :mrgreen:

I stand corrected, thanks. The sign states otherwise as I recall. I have seen people OC there, always assumed it went unnoticed.

I like how this says they have made the "decision" to comply with state laws. I wish I could make decisions on which laws I will comply with lol.

Gander mountain is the same way. If you OC in there and anyone asks, the second you show your LTCF, they go away. Not that its right or wrong having to show the card, but meh, it makes for an easier day

They are a private company. State law can not make them allow people to OC in their store if they don't want people to OC.
