New Revolver Damaged on Day 1
Revolvers are supposed to be reliable, are they not? I had purchased a bran new Taurus 444 Ultralite 44 mag made with a titanium cylinder. I picked up the gun and took her to the range with 180 grain UMC and 240 grain UMC 44 mag Remington ammo. I shot the entire box of 180 grains without any issues. Once I had switched to the 240 grains, within the first 6 shots, I had a bullet unseat. I managed to clear it out, load up another 6 rounds, and then had a major malfunction on the first shot.
One of my spent casings got stuck inside the cylinder. My friend said when I had fired the gun, fire shot out the side as opposed to the front of the barrel. I had to use a cleaning rod to knock out the casing. Upon further inspection of the chamber (I think it’s called) and the casing, it appears that the casing bonded to the chamber wall so much so that when the casing was removed, it took out two chunks of metal with it.
I had taken the gun to my gunsmith, and he was puzzled. The inside of the casing was intact, and the primer still fully seated, which indicates it wasn’t a “hot” round. I contacted Taurus. They’re going to take the gun back with free shipping, and fix it.
So, here’s my question. What the hell happened?

I would be inclined to contact Remington and let them know the lot number of the ammo. If there are any incurred costs they may pick that up. I think you had an ammo problem nothing with the gun, and if I had to guess I would say weak case burned through.

Hold on, isn't that cylinder made from titanium?
Or is it randomalloythatmightincludesometitanium?
Either way, that sucks.
Hate to do it, but this is why I've avoided Taurus. At least they're taking care of it. Still, I'd have trouble trusting it.Selling off a a sizeable Spyderco collection here

Re: New Revolver Damaged on Day 1
After a better cleaning, the casing does appear to have 2 small slits right through it. Looks like I'm calling Remington on Monday. I doubt Taurus will fix my gun if they suspect it's an ammo issue. I'm mostly just pissed because this happend on my very first day with a new gun.

I dont reload, but many of the people I know who do reload always say that Remington and UMC have much thinner cases then other ammo manufactures.

Re: New Revolver Damaged on Day 1
Whoa, when you told me the cylinder broke, you didn't mention it was a titanium cylinder! That makes the whole story even more outrageous.
