Default my new rifle has some problems

ok my wife just bought me a remington 597 22lr for x mas....just took it out the other day and a couple rounds into it i had failure to eject....happened bout 20 times within 200 rounds.....givin i didnt take it apart and clean it before i used it and i beleave the gun was a floor model......

what happens is the bolt comes back after the shot but the empty round tays in the chamber as the new round comes in........

do u think its a huge deal or something that a good cleaning might fix.....it doesnt happen all the time but it was enough to get me kind of upset

    thanks guys

Give it a good cleaning and light lube, then try a couple of different ammo brands of .22's. they are picky sometimes.

yeah I got a mossberg plinkster on black friday and it had alot of issues then I cleaned it and not so much. Did finally have to send it back to mossberg for repair, appears that the ejector is not working properly as it would keep leaving the empty casing in the barrel.

thats exactly what problem mine is having.......it is very acurate and i love it so far except for the problem.....ill prolly end up cleaning it this week then goin this weekend to see if it fixed it.........i was talking to some people and said that the 597 doesnt need any lube and some say itll take 300 rounds to break it in....i never had a rimfire before and this is the first gun that right out of the box im having problems with............i just really hopes its something i can fix and not have to buy new parts for it already

What Fullauto said, Probably a combo of lack of proper cleaning/lube and ammo. It seems to me that .22's are the most tempermental when it comes to ammo.

Definitely clean and lube it first. Then run some good 22 ammo - CCI Stingers or such. I had a brand new ruger I didn't clean or lube before shooting and used cheap Remington rounds and had the same problem as you. I broke it down and C&L then used CCI Stingers, it's run flawlessly ever since.

Make sure the chamber is clean.

CCI Stingers have a longer casing than most 22lr ammo and can lock up some rifles. Mini Mags or Velocitors would be a better choice for testing.

If Stingers will chamber, they will cycle the action.....briskly. Hot rounds.

I use to be a dealer many years ago. Aside from the usual judgement of new weapons that came into my shop I had a cleanliness judgement on what it took for me to be pleased to present a new weapon to a customer or put it on the rack.
I'll probably tick off the Remington die hards, but they were the worse.
Rifles and shotguns averaged one t-shirt each. Most still had powder residue in the bores and actions.
My best were Brownings both Belgium and Japanese.

As for your problem, since it was a gift, I'd give it a good cleaning and if that doesn't do it take it back where you bought it and let them contend with the manufacturer.

Sorry, I did mean Mini Mags not Stingers. I check the ammo when I got home.
