Do You Like the New Sig 229 Design?

I just noticed that Sig is now selling the new designed 229 model

I have the Sig 229~R model that was made just before this new design.

What do you guys think?

Personally, I like the new slide (looks like the M11/228) but I dont really care much for the grips.

This "redesign" was done as a cost cutting move by Sig. It is clear to me that there are less machine operations for a CNC machine to perform on the newer design. The older design had more rounded edges and looked more refined and polished. The new design looks basic and cheaper.

I do not like the new design.

As a non-Sig fan (Though I do like the P238, and their 1911 wasn't bad), and a non-sig fan because I abhor DA/SA, I don't see a difference (cosmetically). =D

I didnt even think about it might having less CNC processes to make the slide. (the frame looks the same)

Also, I cant find on the Sig website that the slide is still made out of Stainless Steel.

From the pics of the new Sig, it looks like a stamped slide.....

Don't know about Sigs but it appears the old you could change grips and the new you can't.

Im sure there's some way of getting the grips off.
Thats how you get to the trigger and hammer springs.

You sure this is a redesign? This looks like their E2 model I read about a long time ago... the grip is substantially smaller for smaller hands.

Scratch that, I just saw the site... looks like they are just replacing the old two piece grips with a one piece to reduce the grip size in the 229 and 226. Must be a universal thing.

Not really a "new" design, just a bit of an update. The E2 ia no longer a separate model, it has now become the standard. Not a big deal as this should have the the new hammer strut and mainspring already in it (to accommodate the more ergonomic grips), so a switch back to the old style two piece should be easy - let me qualify that by saying I've never done it, I just know you could go the other way, but the strut etc had to be changed.

Other than the grip, the only thing that has changed are the full-height slide serrations at the rear. While it may be correct that it is less expensive to manufacture (and I'm not saying one way or the other), the fact is that the half-height serrations were one of the complaints that were regularly heard about the P229, so I look at this as simply addressing those complaints.

The slide is still milled SS. The folded slides of the old P226 and P228 were not up to handling the intensity of the .357 Sig and .40 S&W rounds. If you are judging your statement on the fact that there is now a roll-pin (which is what the folded-slide guns used) instead of a solid pin through the slide, Sig changed to using a roll pin on all models some time ago.

A nice freshening of the design with better ergonomics to accommodate more people. I have average size hands and had trouble with double-stack Sigs. Sig's aluminum grips solved my problems, but it could have also been done with this update, which will also work for even smaller hands.

Not sure I like it, I have I guess you could say "the old style". I do agree the grip size on the old is quite large for small hands. Let's just say I'm glad I got mine when I did.
