    Default 1/4"@50 yards

I was looking at the Nikon Pro-Staff 3-9x40 rimfire scope. It has 1/4" @ 50 yard adjustments. Would I be correct in assuming that this equates to 1/2" @ 100 yards? For a specific .22LR round, ( 100 yard zero ) the drop at 200 yards is 40". This is approximately 20MOA. This would require 40 clicks of adjustment as opposed to 80 clicks for a 1/4" @ 100 yard scope, am I correct? A software program I was using indicated 80 clicks, I believe the software is using 1/4" @ 100 yards as a default setting. Just verifying that I am not missing something. Thank you in advance.

I have done similar calculations with the .22 and i found that it came out too dramatic when getting up there with that many clicks. I would start at half that and put a big ass peice of paper down range.

Yup, you've got it right. Nitpickers will question whether the scope adjustments are calibrated in MOA on IPHY, as there is a small difference. For practical purposes, you are figuring it correctly. Of course, with inexpensive glass the variations in manufacture are going to be far more relevant than any theoretical errors in the exact scale.

Thank you for your prompt responses, I guess the software is based on 1/4" @ 100 yard adjustments. I have actually never heard of a scope that adjusts 1/4" @ 50 yards. It is a rimfire scope, maybe that is why. Again I thank you.

I just went on the Nikon website: depending on which reticle you get, they have models with 1/4 moa per click as well as 1/4" @50 yards per click (approx.1/2 MOA).

They also mention that the scope the OP was asking about has "Precise 1/4 inch @ 50 yds Adjustments with an incredible 80 MOA adjustment range (@ 100 yds)."

This makes me wonder how much their copy writer knows about optics. 80 MOA is still 80 MOA whether it is at 100 yards or 10 yards or 900 yards.

I guess this is simply one of those things that makes me go "Hmmmm..."

    Cheers,
