Just how violent are some potential threats?
Received this from an associate of John Farnam.
From an LEO Friend in WY:
"Several weeks ago, we had a shooting at a local movie theater.
An industrial-sized, young, violent, male offender was in the process of tuning-up his girlfriend (physically), as other patrons looked on.
A middle-aged man, who had been standing in line, stepped forward and commanded the offender to stop. The offender instantly turned on this person and started striking him with his fists.
According to witnesses, the man being beaten repeatedly told the offender to stop, with no results. At some point, he told the offender that he had a gun and that he would shoot if the offender did not stop. The offender told the victim that he would "... take your gun and shove it up your ass!"
The victim then produced an NAA Pistol (22LR) and fired two rounds into the offender at close range. Both struck him in the groin. It is not clear if the point of impact was inadvertent or intentional. Either way, it worked! The offender immediately stopped his attack and backed off."
I have long advocated that there is a criminal element that walks among us who are decidedly not impressed by the presence of a firearm and that H2H skills should be considered as an adjunct to the firearm.
This had the potential to turn out much worse for the good samaritan in this incident. I would not refer to this as a positive outcome.

Haha, maybe the victim was an expert shot.... one shot to each testicle.
I guess a 22lr to the groin is gonna make one take heed rather quickly.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6mK2JYfZAmA When will America become America?

Just curious, what part of WY?
And did the LEO's file any charges against the shooter?"One must be a fox to recognize traps, and a lion to frighten wolves” ~ Machiavelli

Too bad the good samaritan wasn't carrying something a little bigger. Not that I'd want to get shot with a .22 anywhere, especially in the groin.
Threats can be violent from the get go, or they can turn violent at any point in time. It sounds like the aggressor started with violence right away. Things easily could have reached the point where Mr. .22 could have been rendered unconscious or semi conscious before being able to draw. He should consider himself lucky.
Stay safe out there.

Perfect example of a "mental stop" gunshot wound.

Just goes to show that a 22 is better than nothing. I would never carry one but in this case if the guy did not have it he may have been beaten pretty bad.
