    Default AR15 Cleaning

What does everyone use to clean their AR? Standard GI kit, or something special like Otis?

Please post with review (and place to buy). I'm looking for a good kit.

The Otis or GI kit both work well.

    I use Breakfree CLP.

Tony, are you still not cleaning (aside from lubing) one of your carbines to see how long it can function reliably?

    What's the status on that?

I've got 2 Otis kits that I haven't broken open yet. Honestly, the good old GI kit with some clp and a t-shirt are all I've ever used.

The same. I haven't shot that one for awhile. It's at 3500+ rounds and all I do is wipe down the BCG, boresnake the barrel and relube w/CLP.

I personally use a Dewey rod or my favorite is the patchworm. The patchworm is so compact and simple to use. You can throw it in your pocket and they are very cheap. You could make your own out of weed wacker string, but why not buy them for $13 for the deluxe kit.

IMO those boresnakes are pure crap.

    Thumbs up Re: AR15 Cleaning

Pending on what other guns you have the OTIS Elite kits are great, if your jsut looking for the AR, the standard GI kits are fine. Ilike the OTIS due to the fact that I've got all the calibers in one bag. I think Kleen Bore also makes a decent AR kit, just pick up a couple of extra chamber brushes, they tend to wear out pretty quick pending on use, I actually used up two brushs in 1 year, but I was cleaning my weapon every day for most of that year...

yeah, I have a few OATIS kits.....and one "goodie bag" of all the stuff I need to clean pretty much any of the weapons I work around.......keep everything in my camelbak. but the OATIS kit's are nice....very complete. I like the coated braided bore wire.....nice and compact
OIF 07-09. I fix Small Arms.........I LOVE my job.....:)
