Shipping firearms
I'm gonna be selling two guns, a S&W M&P9 and a Savage Mark I .22, and need to ship them. How do I go about that and who ships firearms? Does the postal service or do I gotta go UPS or something? Obviously I've no experience in the matter.
Thanks.

The pertinent laws are here,,,,http://forum.pafoa.org/firearms-6/24...g-selling.html
The must be shipped UPS, and I believe overnight, to an FFL
EDIT: Fedex or UPSGeorge,
So many guns, so little money.

Re: Shipping firearms
A pistol from an unlicensed person must go UPS or FedEx via next day air or you can pay an FFL to ship it for you. The FFL can use the US mail service but will charge you a fee obviously so the cost may be a wash.
A long gun can be sent by an unlicensed person through UPS, FedEx or USPS (if it's going to an FFL in another state or a non-prohibited person in the sender's own state). Sometimes the postal employees don't know that however and may hassle you so be prepared to educate them.
In any case make sure the receiving FFL will accept a shipment from an unlicensed person because many will not. And be sure to read up on the rules for whichever carrier you choose.

Re: Shipping firearms
Long guns are no issue, just take it to a fedex or ups hub and ship it ground to an FFL if out of state. A handgun you would be better off getting a dealer to ship it through the post office.
You can ship the handgun yourself through fedex or ups but they will only ship it next day air and it's expensive. I'm pretty sure it's their policy and not law.
However do not attempt to ship a handgun yourself through the post office as that is against the law. Dealers are only allowed to use the PO.

Pistols need to be shipped overnight UPS or Fedex to FFL.

Re: Shipping firearms
I think it cost me like $90 to ship a 1911 to Springfield armory a few months back. That was overnight with $1500 insurance i think.

Cheaper to have an FFL ship it for you.

Re: Shipping firearms
Thanks for the replies. I posted a classified here in hopes of finding someone local to buy it, as I was gonna sell it to Buds. But they only wanted to give me $300 for it and it's brand new.
