Thinking of a J-Frame, but.....
how well do they work for pocket carry with a pocket holster??? I was looking at a 442, but I want something for pocket carry, like in jeans. I'm also thinkin of the Kahr CM9. It's more pricey, but probably would fit in a pocket better.
Anyone have any input on these two???
Thanks!!!!

Re: Thinking of a J-Frame, but.....
Smith J-Frame will work for pocket carry & still use a J-Frame Bodyguard as pocket carry weapon.
My main pocket carry is a Rohrbaugh R9 or Seecamp LS .380 they are a little thinnerThe oracle is in. Age and treachery will always overcome youth and skill!!

I carry a Taurus 605, which is J-frame sized, in slacks and cargo/academy shorts. Not sure I'd carry it in jeans, but then, you might wear baggier jeans than me.

Re: Thinking of a J-Frame, but.....
Many standard pressure 9mm loads when fired from a very short barreled auto will not create appreciably more power or terminal performance than the best .380 loads. The same is true for .38 special +P.
The only thing you'll get from the bigger calibers is deeper penetration- IF you select bullets known for that feature.
The CW9 is a lot flatter than a J frame i think, and should be a lot easier to carry, but a Kahr P380 is smaller than the CW9 too.

Have you tried IWB carry? I ask because I started with pocket carry and found IWB to be better in every situation for me, YMMV.

Re: Thinking of a J-Frame, but.....
I have a S&W Mod 60 2-1/8" 5 shot with exposed hammer that I have a pocket holster for.
First thing I would suggest is to make sure you put smooth wooden grips on it.
The rubber grips always hang and drag on clothing, for me anyway.
It is a little bulky, but do-able.
Best way I carry it is in a Don Hume 721 Open Top OWB leather holster, and also a Simply Rugged Pancake that has 3 slots and you can wear it crossdraw.

I carry a 442 in my front pocket holster or IWB. In the pocket holster, it looks like a wallet or cell phone. Actually, when carried in loose fitting pants, it disappears. No one ever suspects I'm carrying.

Re: Thinking of a J-Frame, but.....
If you have a bobbed or shrouded hammer model, you would be better off than with a hammer having a spur. However, a true "hammerless" model would be the most desirable J-frame for pocket-carry.
It is doable, especially if your clothing is looser-fitting. But IWB WILL still be faster and more foolproof.

Re: Thinking of a J-Frame, but.....
I have carried a 642 in my pocket with-out a pocket holster and never had problems, BUT, when I put a set of Hogue smooth grips on it, they are a bit bigger and the butt sticks out slightly. I ended up buying a Wild Bill's Concealment OWB holster and love it. I should have done that sooner.

I carry Speer 124 gr +p Gold Dots in my Kahr CM9 and I use a Desantis Nemesis pocket holster.
