    Default Home made case lube

I wanted to thank Hooknladder for his link to make case lube from liquid lanolin and Isoheet. It works GREAT. Easy to use, cheap to make, and dosen't clog up the dies. Hooknladder, I paid you props. Joe

How about a link to the recipe?

I've been using lanolin as a case lube but don't quite have it right. Much too thick using it straight up.

And what is Isoheet? Never heard of it.

Isoheat is 99% isopropyl alcohol. It's used as diesel fuel line dryer. Some pharmaces sell 99% but most just sell 91%. You can get Isoheat at any Walmart in the automotive department. The ratio I use is 12 parts isopropyl alcohol to one part liquid lanolin. It works great. Joe

The liquid lanolin/alcohol mix is said to be similar to dillons case lube. Liquid lanolin will be next to impossible to find, other than online, in my rural area. When reloading one evening the commercial spray can lube I was using went empty. No gun shops open. Did a quick search and saw where Ed Harris over on The Cast Bullet site mentioned Alberto V05 hair cream for lube. The original formula apparently has a high lanolin content. Found some at the local general store, works great. Looks like one tube will last several years. Many other ideas floating around for lube. Will try the lanolin/alcohol mix down the road.
It ain't what they call you, it's what you answer to.

Even here in the big city liquid lanolin will be next to impossible to find. I had a vitiman / health products store special order it. The 99% isopropyl alcohol is a challange also. I got lucky and found a couple of bottles in a Giant Supermarket. I really like it as a case lube, and I agree its the same stuff (or very similar to) the Dillon product. Off subject but I've also taken to mixing Ed's Red as a gun cleaning solution and have been very happy with that also.

Thanks for the plug man! My mix is around 1:12 also. Yes, if you are rural like me the ingredients can be hard to find. Most Mom and Pop pharmacies will order the 99% for you and Amazon.com will find you the liquid lanolin.

Another trick is you can use PAM cooking spray for small cartridges like .223. Just throw a hundred or so in a ziplock bag and a couple squirts, seal, shake and they are good to go. You will get a nasty white residue on your press thats easy to clean and it doesn't smell the greatest.

Here is the link for the case lube again.

Another option is (Ideal Clear Glide), this is found in Lowe’s or Home Depot in the electrical department. It is used to pull electric cable threw tight spots.
I roll all my Rifle cases and have used this stuff for the last 4 years, no mixing wipes off easy, and the best part its cheap, $8.00 a quart.

Muffler Man; Thanks for the clarification. I've been using "lanolin cream", bought at a CVS drug store. Found with the (yuk) nursing/breast feeding supplies.

It's a tube of lanolin, which is a stiff sticky substance. It is 100 % lanolin, USP.

I'm going to get some IsoHeet and see how it "cuts" the paste lanolin.

I've tried using electrical wire pulling lubricant as a case lube. The product I tried was water based. Although it worked for a while, it caused water to be trapped in the die and helped the die to begin to rust.

I found the liquid lanolin in a heath store near my house, and the Isoheet at Walmart. I love these homemade things. Joe
