OC in state game lands?
We have a family cabin in the pocono's that is on state game lands.
I love the area, but it is infested with nefarious types from out of state and Im wondering about the legality of OC on SGL.
I also dont like bears or coyotes.
Anyone know the law on this?

Re: OC in state game lands?
To the OP are you saying to OC on your own property or else where in the state game land? I'm sure someone will pop up with exact law, but my understanding was with a LTCF we still needed to carry CC in a state game land.

Re: OC in state game lands?
I've encountered the PGC a few times while in the game lands, I was OC every time. Not a word was said to me about my pistol.
Guns are dangerous, but no guns is more dangerous.

Re: OC in state game lands?
Only if State Game Lands are considered State Parks. I'm not sure they are.
However, WCOs will assume you are hunting if you have a firearm in State Game Lands. I've heard stories, although I've never corroborated them, of people in your situation being cited by WCOs for violating hunting regulations for going on a walk in SGLs with a Glock.Last edited by legendarylorot; May 20th, 2011 at 05:02 PM.

Re: OC in state game lands?
My understanding is that you need to have an LTCF or a Sportsman's license to OC or CC on state game lands.
That may only be true if you also have a hunting license (actually in the act of hunting) but I am not sure.

Re: OC in state game lands?
State Game Lands are under the Game Commission; state Parks are under the Div of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR)
A 6109 licensed individual (reciprocated, LTCF, or SPR) are exempt from any regulations regarding personal defense firearms in the application of the Game code:
34 Pa.C.S.A. § 2525. Possession of firearm for protection of self or others
(a) General rule.--It is lawful for a law enforcement officer or any person who possesses a valid license to carry a firearm issued under 18 Pa.C.S. § 6109 (relating to licenses) to be in possession of a loaded or unloaded firearm while engaged in any activity regulated by this title.
(b) Construction.--
(1) This section shall supersede any prohibition on the possession of a firearm or ammunition contained in any other provision of this title.
(2) This subsection shall not be construed to permit the hunting or harvesting of any wildlife with a firearm or ammunition not otherwise permitted by this title.
Its unclear whether the OP is talking about OC by an un-licensed 6109 individual. If so I would hazard a guess that its legal but take caution that your activity is not construed as prima facie evidence of hunting.IANAL

Re: OC in state game lands?
If you carry a sharp, pointed stick, does this mean you are hunting too??
To answer your question, yes, you can carry concealed or out in the open on SGL's.
It takes more that the mere possession of a firearm to be accused of hunting.
You can now spotlight with a LTFC. No one is accused of hunting.
