nfa and moving question.
hey guys, got a question about nfa items and moving form state to state. 2 things i'd like to have would be a suppressed rifle/pistol, and a sbr. currently i live in pa where i know its legal to own both provided the right steps are taken. i'll be living here for atleast the next 2 years for sure, but after my girlfriend gets her masters we are kinda planning on moving to north carolina where i believe its also legal to posses nfa items. question is what is and how hard is the process to legally move with nfa items?

Re: nfa and moving question.
No big deal just make sure that all of your NFA item are legal in the state you expect to move into. Not all states allow the same NFA items. Also some states require that some NFA items like MGs be registered with the state police so make sure to check state and local laws.
Print and fill out the form below, make sure to mark that it's a permanent move and mail in to the ATF. Just allow time for processing.

Re: nfa and moving question.
Assuming the NFA items are legal where you're moving, you just fill out the from to notify the ATF that you a moving. The question I had, and couldn't find a definite answer to when I asked, was what would happen if you moved to a state where the item ISN'T allowed? Besides having to sell it, can you keep it as your property but in a location where it is legal?

Yes. You could leave it in a storage locker, vacation home, with friends, or with family. When with another person, it must be kept locked up, and you should put a copy of the canceled stamp with the NFA device. The person storing the NFA device cannot have the combo or key to the item. ...they cannot have control or custody.RIP: SFN, 1861, twoeggsup, Lambo, jamesjo, JayBell, 32 Magnum, Pro2A, mrwildroot, dregan, Frenchy, Fragger, ungawa, Mtn Jack, Grapeshot, R.W.J., PennsyPlinker, Statkowski, Deanimator, roland, aubie515

Re: nfa and moving question.
hey guys thanks for the replies. yeah it seems like n.c. is one of those states that leaves it up to the local gov to determine if you can or cant. so i guess it comes down to where in n.c. we end up moving.

Interesting.... you can't own a suppressor in The People's Republic of CA, but you can own SBR, SBS, and FA ??!?!
