Wondering about Chambersburg and area.
Hi, I'm Jim and I currently live in NY. I really am fed up with NY and all it's anti-gun sentiment, taxes, overcrowding, etc. and now that I have retired, I want to move to PA. I know some folks in Bloomsburg and have driven around PA some. I think I'd like to settle in Franklin County and am wondering if any of you guys can advise me about hunting opportunities, land and such. We probably are looking at around 5 to 10 acres in a more rural area not terribly far from shopping.
Thank you!

Very nice area. I lived next door in Gettysburg back in '97-'98 and visited a few times. I think you'd enjoy it.

Plenty of state forest there and orchard owners who will let you hunt plus, two of the most stocked gun shops around. Reddings Hardware and Taylor's Trading Post.

Thanks for the responses. Can't wait to return with the wife in late June/early July for a better look around.

When you come down, PM me. There are a lot of nice clubs to shoot at in Franklin County. Good hunting, and two WORLD CLASS trout streams right here.
In addition to all the other stuff, it is a fairly good place for weather, as well. Sheltered by mountains from the worst of winter AND summer. Far enough out of the big cities that it is still rural in flavor and attitude. Two hours to Washington or Baltimore.

Re: Wondering about Chambersburg and area.
I live just over the border in Orrtanna in Adams County. My neighbor is actually selling their house. I believe is has 6 acres and the house is only 30-40 years old. We're in a small valley with only six houses and it's very quiet and everyone is friendly. The real estate company is Keller Williams is you want to check it out.
I carry a gun cause a cop is too heavy. Hippie and 3%er.

Thanks, Evan. I'll look up the real estate company when we are in town.
