    Question FL non-resident permit

So, there is a good chance I may need to travel to MS in the upcoming year and the only states (other than MD which I can avoid) in the travel plans that my PA LTCF isn't honored are MS and AL. I see that MS and AL both honor FL ... so I've got the paperwork on order from FL.

    Now, my questions:
    - I seem to recall that FL will accept a DD214 as training proof - can anyone verify? If not what other training is acceptable? I know PMSC is having a NRA Basic Course soon if necessary. (trying to avoid extra expense right now!)
    - What is the approximate turnaround on a permit once the application packet is mailed to them?
    - Current cost?
    - Any other hints or tips on applying?

    Thanks!

The DD214 and your PA Hunter Training card are both accepted. NRA Basic Handgun is as well.

Turn around is upto 60 days by law, however most come back well before that. Usually 30-45 days

Current costs. Its less than $120, cant remember off the top of my head.

no other tips I can think of.

Make sure the required fingerprint card is done carefully. My permit was held up because the first card I sent down was not usable. It took them most of the 60 days to send me a new card, I ended up going to the State Police to have it done before sending it back and waiting another 6 weeks or so. The last I checked it was $116 plus the cost of passport pictures and fingerprints.

    Thanks folks!

Looks like I should be alright for both training and turnaround time (MS trip is possibly in April).

Great find Lee! That could save me a few dollars. Might still get a FL later to pick up other states.

    Coyote,

In a word - Reciprocity. The PA LTCF isn't recognized by MS or AL so if I wish to legally carry while in those states I need a permit from a state that they have reciprocity with (of which FL and NH are). I do not wish to travel unarmed on this trip so I am confirming that I have or obtain a permit valid in every state I'll be in.
