    Default S&W K-22 Masterpiece

I just purchased a 6" K-22 today. Serial number (on the butt) is K 173XXX. It's had some range time and some wear to the bluing, but it's still tight. I'm looking forward to shooting it.

Judging from the remarks on another thread about K-22's, the gun is older than me.

In that SN range your pistol is post-WW2. I have one in an earlier SN range. When you get to shoot it your will NOT be disapointed. They are tack-drivers. Sounds like a nice find.

looks like about 1952 for the DOB.
yeap, they ARE the 22 caliber revolver that all others are judged against.

    heres a 1950 sample.

I have one I got from my grandfather that was made around 1958. They truly are masterpieces. Enjoy it.

Beautiful! And it would be a perfect match for my K-38 Masterpiece....

You will love it. They point and have a natural balance and as said are tack drivers.
    Here is mine from 1952

    Almost forgot,
Check the number on the inside right grip. If it matches the SN# of the gun you have an extra bonus as back then S & W numbered the grips.
I hope you find a match.

Ah, brings back memories. I remember in the mid 70s those K22s were next to impossible to locate as new, used forget it. The 22 Combat Masterpiece was more attainable. The latter was a K22 with a 4" barrel. By the way, the K38s during that time period were just as difficult to find.
Currently, we live in a time where popular models are not difficult to find, in the 70s and early 80s there was a number of popular models that were just not avaliable, and when one did find such a firearm, a premium was paid beyond list.
