    Default Remington Rem Oil

    B"H

Would you people know if I could use Remington rem oil to clean AND lubricate or is it only for lubricating with me having to use hoppes 9 solvent first?

    Thank You

    Preferably, no.

Your best bet is to clean with a solvent, and lube with an oil.

ive actually heard multiple times from very knowledgeable people that Rem oil actually is one of the fastest evaporating oils to use. (Which is a bad thing) I use Hoppes, you cant really go wrong with it!

    Rem Oil is junk.

Get a synthetic oil for lube and grease for sliding parts.

Get a quality solvent for cleaning too.

    Your gun will thank you!

    This.

Rem oil certainly isn't the best stuff out there.

+1 to the previous posts, but I'll add:

I'll often use rem oil as one may use water.... as a rinse. I don't mean that uniquely as an insult to rem oil though.

It just works well as a rinse.

I use rem oil for "quick cleans" or interim cleanings when I don't want any water involved (actually I rarely use any water) of my semi shotty and pistol, or .22 semi rifle. I'll also wipe or blow dry with compressed air most of the rem oil off and then relube with another.

If I leave Rem oil on as a primary lubricant, it is only for single day usage and then I relube. I don't use it on my AR though as a lube, not a judgement really, I just haven't.

For actually lube of the firarms I most often use Mobil 1ATF, or SLP2000 EWL, and hoppes. But I'm not die hard devoted to any at the moment.

I will say I'm becoming more and more fond of the SLP2000 EWL though, especially for the Armalite rifle.

I use rem-oil on all of my pistols. Never had any problems with any of them.

I don't really use it on my pistols, but those rem oil wipes are really nice for hunting.

I don't really like it. I've only used the spray and you can tell it evaporates right off. I guess it's alright if you run out of a solvent and have to soak a patch, but I'd only do so if I was in a bind.

Oil for parts, grease for slides.
