    Default York county government center

I had to go to the treasurers office at the old courthouse today for a dog license. I wasn't sure what the firearms policy was or if they had lockers but I took my chances. When I walked in they did have lockers and the security officer seemed almost happy to have someone check a firearm. Overall a very good experience!

If it is the "old" courthouse, are there still active courtrooms there? What prohibited location still resides there?

He told me there is still one courtroom upstairs but it doesn't get used too often.

I've always wondered what the hell they use that old building for!

If this is the location I'm thinking of, I had to report there for jury duty, and there is a large, old courtroom there. It was where the voir dire (sp?) was conducted.

LBaker--just for future reference, you should be able to buy dog licenses at several retail locations in the County. If you're in East York, there's a pet shop near Walmart/Home Depot that sells them. If you're up in Dover, Just Pets on Canal/Bull sells them.

I did lifetime licenses for our two via mail. No need to go into downtown.

Correct me if i'm wrong...but in that case then only "upstairs" is prohibited...not the entire building? Something about the "courtroom and halls immediately adjacent"....???

Yep, I know. I was there on other business so it was no big deal. I wanted to check the old courthouse out since the remodel.

This was the courthouse before they built a new one. I don't know the layout upstairs, but it might not be feasable to place the checkpoint anywhere else. I certainly wouldn't want them to have to install more equiptment and add more staff to guard a rarely used facility... I was happy that they let me in the building with my cell phone.

LOL, I just didn't want you to have to make another trip there and deal with checking your firearm, along with the hassle of downtown unless necessary.
