But my wife and I heard you will need either a hunting license or a fishing license to use it.

Beginning in January 2015, individuals and groups interested in using the new shooting range facilities must purchase an annual range permit.

Range permits will be issued to individuals 16 years of age or older for $15 per year. Family permits will be offered for $20 annually.

Permits will be available at the park office and there also will be honor envelopes for self-registration at the shooting range starting in January of 2015.

Is this permit in addition to the one I already bought from the state?

You know I assumed they were talking about the State Range permit, but I'll have to call the Park Office and clarify. I already buy a Hunting license so an additional $15 bucks isn't that bad. If you don't already get a Hunting license and use the State Range permit for $30 then have to pay an additional $20 for a family license at the park then that's $50 a year. I know of two private ranges around the area that would be comparable to that and are a lot larger and better ranges. My membership to LCCS is only $50 a year.

I just tried calling the park office and got their answering service. I'll post if they reply to my message I left.

I'd be interested in their reply, I was hoping to get out there in the spring but I'm not paying extra for that. I was told my permit was good at any SGL range when I got it, unless a State Park is a different animal.

When it was open before all you had to have was the regular permit or hunting license. What I'm wondering is if somehow the PGC isn't in control of it anymore. Maybe the park took it over privately or something.

It's after 6 so I doubt I'll get a call back tonight. Hopefully I'll get one tomorrow.

I thought I read somewhere before that the Little Pine shooting range is not a SGL range and the PGC is not in control of it.

That would make sense, it's too nice to be an SGL range. Oh well.

Little Pine range has always been a DCNR range. Starting on 1/15 of this year is the first permits have been required. I believe it is to offset the cost of the range upgrades and future lead remediation.
