Re: Headed to Pittsburgh for the NRA convention, refresh me on the laws please..
I'm confused as all hell now. I...for as long as I have been on this board have been under the impression by many quotes that in the sate of Pennsylvania, simply posting "no firearms" is NOT law. I can't count how many times I've seen posts on here where people asking if "so and so establishment" does metal detectors, like stadiums and such. Because you know your not suppose to take a gun in there, but unless a worker or owner ask you to leave, your totally legal. And the threads carry on and on and on. And we all know, that on this board your not allowed to discuss yourself breaking the law.
so....
We need official clarification on this. Because there's a lot of people out there breaking the law with this.[account deactivated]

Buddy. I read that statute and I'm so damn confused I'm not sure I remember my own name now...that sounds like something some politician wrote....oh wait, they did.
But I guess Gunlawyer pretty much explained it to us there.
WTF I want to know is....who the hell started all of this stuff about the signs bearing no weight? Because I can clearly see I'm not the only one who thought this.Last edited by Franky4Fingers; April 28th, 2011 at 11:16 PM.

Is the statute really so hard to understand? It says you are a defiant trespasser if you enter or remain in any place which notice against trespass is given by either a) verbal notification from someone who works/lives there or b) a sign proscribed by law or c) a sign that is displayed in such a way that it is reasonably likely to grab your attention.
It seems very straight forward and far less ambiguous than other laws. I don't know who started the rumors about the signs holding no weight, but it's dangerous advice.I am not a lawyer and nothing I say should be construed as legal advice.

Re: Headed to Pittsburgh for the NRA convention, refresh me on the laws please..
I was only talking about the part you highlighted.
Alright, I went back and read it a few more times after taking a break from the board and I get it now. I think I was still flustered with the shock of finding out this "rumor" was a falsehood and it threw off my reasoning skills.
But back to the discussion at hand, yeah it was pretty much common knowledge to this board about the rumor of the signs holding no weight, theres only a few of us on here that spoke up...imagine how many more didn't, and imagine how many never saw this thread.Last edited by Franky4Fingers; April 29th, 2011 at 01:27 AM.

Good luck in Pittsburgh. I read in another thread it's a mad house. Traffic is terrible. And no place to park.

Yeah, the signage question is complicated.
Of course to put it in a bit of perspective, if a movie theater posts a sign saying "no firearms" and "no outside food or drink" then concealing your firearm is exactly the same degree of illegal as smuggling in a bottle of water. There's absolutely no legal difference between the two, you still violated the posted terms of entry.
Of course they're substantially less likely to call the cops if they catch you with a bottle of Aquafina..."There are four boxes to use in the defense of liberty: soap, ballot, jury, ammo. Use in that order."

The sign posting is generally private owned property and although it is not illegal for you to carry, they can in fact ask you to leave, if you are carrying

As I have said before.....
The wording of the statute and it's actual application can be very separate things.
I defer (once again) to Gunlawer.
