Mods: Moved thread, please close. (Savage mounting system on Remington Rifles?)
Is it possible (using machine tools, of course) continue the thread on a Remington Barrel (i.e., cutting down/off the shoulder) and then making a barrel nut and fitting the barrel like a savage barrel? In my mind, this seems as if it would work. Am I missing something? Would it work on a Remington action?
I know it seems like a lot of work, but is there any reason it would not work?
Thanks. Just trying to think out of the box.

Re: Savage mounting system on Remington Rifles?
You may get more response if you moved this to the gunsmithing part of this forum. Why not just buy a Savage?

Re: Savage mounting system on Remington Rifles?
Not planning on doing this, but own both Savages and Remingtons and I got to thinking....
Good suggestion about moving thread...I'll do that. I guess I was more tired than I thought when I originally posted.
All the best,
