456 - That is some thing to consider, I have dies for the .308 and have reloaded plenty of ammo for my bolt action. I guess I don't want to shoot up all my .308 ammo I like the AR 10 but think that I'd go through all my .308 too quick. I guess I could always reload it again. I've always seen the AR as light, fast and accurate. That's a good question.
I also have 7.62x39 dies but they were so cheap some years back I've never reloaded any, I have reloaded some .223 just to see how accurate I could make them.
I guess I was trying work with the two AR 15 Bushmasters that I own, I'm trying to make one of them as versatile as possible. But you are right a AR 10 cost about $1600 - $1800, the price of two uppers, unless I get the $500 jobs.

I would go with the standard 243 for the cost is less and it is easy to by the 243 ammo
