Default Recommendations for 22 LR pistol

Just soliciting recommendations for a 22 LR pistol to be used solely for target shooting. I'm a fan of Sig, but have heard that the mosquito has problems. Also if you would be so kind as to give me an idea of price, both new and used, on your recommendation. Thanks.

The Mosquitoes seem to work very well, but only after being dehorned, and with CCI ammo, at the worst. I think S&W makes a very good target pistol for the money (can be used for comp., even) as well as Ruger and Browning.

It's not 22lr, but Kel Tec has the PMR-30, which fires the 22 magnum cartridge, with a 30 round magazine. Jeff from Gunblast gave it a good review. My brother sent me a pic because it has an abidextrous safety and he's left handed. I like it to, and it's around $600 less than the fn five-seven.

If you don't mind a single shot, the chipmunk pistol kicks butt. Otherwise the other members named some good choices too.

Depending upon your "pocket depth", then a Ruger Mk II (not III) with a 5 7/8 or 6 7/8ths bull barrel. A trifle difficult to strip/clean the first time but after that, it will swallow anything you want to fire from it. If you have a lot more money, then the S&W M41 with either a 5.5 or 7 inch barrel. This, unless you want a second mortgage, is the pistol that all other 0.22s are measured against. If a revolver, then the S&W M17 blued version with the 6" barrel. Again, the revolver all others are measured against. the newer S&Ws with 6 or 10 shots are not up to the standard of the older blued Smith revolvers.

If you want something a little less expesive than the M41, then you can often find a good High Standard for around $600-700.

I have a ~30 year old Mk II and comparable M41 and HS pistols; none of the current crop come anywhere close to these 25-30 year old pistols for accuracy and sheer lack of problems. Dave_n

Dave n is right...the S&W model 41 semi auto and the Model 17 revolver (or the 617) are the ones all others are measured against. I seldom go to the range without at least one of them. But I think the Rugers are fine guns also.

    I've shot a Mosquito. I wouldn't buy one at a 1\2 price sale.
The Rugers, High Standards {older ones}, Colts {woodsman, targetsman, huntsman and challenger}and S&W 41 are nice 22s for target. Throw in the Buckmark also.

Ruger will be the cheapest I think, S&W will be the most expensive.
