    Default 1911 choices. Need suggestions.

I'm in the market for a 1911. I'd love to have a colt, but i just don't have that kind of scratch laying around. I'm looking in the $600 - $800 range. At first I was leaning towards a Taurus, and after doing some research, it appears that the worse thing going for the Taurus is, that it is in fact, a Taurus. Lotta folks just don't like the name. I also read some horror stories about the Kimber custom II. Such as, they don't work out of the box. I've also researched springfield, although not as in depth. I own a 5" XD 40, and I absolutly love it. But most of all I want a good, reliable 1911. Any suggestions out there would be greatly appriciated. Thanks

You might want to consider the new Smith & Wesson E series.
Full size Government model in stainless should be around $750 or less.
Looks like a real good choice.

Continue doing your homework, as you are. But, most of all, IMO, more dollars spent does not necessarily mean a better 1911. I'd give serious consideration to the Rock Island Armorys, the Citadels, and the Metro Arms guns. Springfield Armory also makes a great 1911 at a reasonable price point.

You have a SA XD, stay in the family and get a Springfield. Depending on its expected use, a Range Officer or Loaded.

That being said, I should say I do not own one.

However, if you want a Colt... save for the Colt. It's always been my experience that whenever I get something different than I originally set out for, I'm not as happy.

I just got a SA range Officer this week. I've only had time to put 200 rounds thru it, but so far, I love the gun.

If you're looking for an inexpensive 1911, (You'll notice I didn't say cheap.), you might want to look at A Rock Island. I have no experience with them, but they have a large following.

Have you looked at Para Ordnance?
They are exactly in your price range.

And what I really like about the 1911's Para Ordnance makes is you can get a standard 1911 that has a high cap magazine. But still accept all standard 1911 parts.

    Here's a 1911 that holds 14 rounds:

Hers another model for concealed carry that holds 11:

Take a look at their entire line up of 1911's:

I can comment on Rock Island Armorys. I have a RIA Tactical (my first, and only for now, 1911) and it goes bang. Only thing I'm not a fan of are the sights.

You may want to wait to see what RIA comes out with in a month or two. I posted a video where they showed their new 1911 with full dust rail and night sights. Not sure what the planned use of your future purchase will be, so a full dust rail may be overkill.
