trap shooting in pittsburgh (beginner)
Hi there,
I've always been curious about trap shooting but i've never had the opportunity to try it out. I'm a total beginner and was wondering if anyone can recommend a club in the pittsburgh area that does general gun safety/training and trap shooting classes (with rentals, as i don't own yet).
I've looked around and it seems like ACRC, PMSC and rosedale are the places that people tend to mention, but i was wondering if anyone had any tips, suggestions or anecdotes.
Also, is trap shooting 'running before i can walk' ? Should i try something more stationary first, or should i just dive in with some proper instruction?
Sorry if this is a totally ridiculous question, but thanks for any help you can offer.

Here's a good place to start: http://www.wheretoshoot.org/Find_Range/index.asp
Just search by your zip code and start calling. And if you go to a range on a public trap shooting day, you shouldn't have any problem finding somebody there to show you the ropes. It really is not a complex game at all. As long as you do the three things below, you'll avoid most problems:
- gun pointed in a safe direction at all times
- guns unloaded and open until on the line ready to shoot
- finger off the trigger
And one piece of advice: You aim a rifle, you point a shotgun. If you look at the sights on a shotgun when shooting at a moving target, you stop your gun from swinging, and miss the target.
