    Default IDPA Scoring Question

I shot a classifier today and durring stage 1, string 7 I hit the head 3 times while shooting for the body. I was told they don't count so -15 on those shots, is this correct?

yes, that is correct. the classifier is very particular about how many shots to shoot and what to hit.

classifier is different than a normal match. you must do things as instructed.

in a normal match you can typically shoot the head or the body, your choice.
it isn't that way in the classifier.

Well, it would depend on how the match is/course is setup.

Some courses we were told to just neutralize the targets with "x" amount of shots each. So a head shot or body shot were ok. Others would be 2 to the body and 1 to the head.

So if they specifically said 2 shots to the body, and you put 3 to the head, those are basically misses.

The scoring is NOT correct. When head shots are specified (as in Strings 1-4), shots to the body (intended as head shots) are scored as misses. Head shots in IDPA generally do count as body shots, particularly since String 7 does not specify body only - "Draw and fire two (2) shots at each T1-T3 “STRONG” hand only".

This is what i thought too. It even says to tape up all body shots after String 4 and i assume its meant for shots that were supposed to hit the head and hit the body instead, they should NOT count.

Counting my 3 missed shots would not have changed my classification, i was just wondering because a few people had different opinions at the match as to how to score them.
