“Things like that just don’t happen around here.”
I had a convo with an officer in which I said that a lot of people say that phrase to me, which to he replied:

Things like that just don’t happen around here?
    Until they do.

And I told him that was one of the best responses I have ever heard.
Crime can happen anywhere and will happen anywhere.

    6'3" and 280 here.
I had a game warden ask me why I would want to carry my sidearm all the time, especially when I was hunting.
I asked him if he carried a knife.
He said he did, and I followed up with how often did he carry it.
He said every day, and I followed up with why.
His answer seemed to enlighten his own question in his mind; it was "I might need a knife when I am out away from my house.".
After he answered it was as if a light switch had been flipped.
I then went on to follow up that I do not carry while hunting to protect myself from game.
I am as vunerable to 2 legged threats when I am carrying a 22LR or a 20 gauge with buckshot as I would be if unarmed.
If I was attached by a human at that time I would not use my longarm to defend myself.
My pistol is my defensive gun, peiod.
Longarms are for uses besides defense for me (generally).

I have heard that sentiment before.
I don't buy into it though.
If I have to fight my way to a rifle, I am in a whole world of hurt beyond what a firearm will fix.
If things had gotten ugly enough that the need to make shots beyond 50 yards was to be expected, my rifle would be one of the weapons I was carrying (and likely my primary).
Since we do not live in a post SHTF world, my pistol is my primary defensive weapon.

6'2" and around 320lbs...yeah, I've been asked before.

I usually reply with something like this: because I can't carry a cop in my pocket.

this is a fact--at 6'5 325 lbs after working at a bar for over 5 years, i've found that there are idiots that don't care how big a guy is.
