yeah so a guy i work with said to another that he wants to get his LTCF... so the other guy starts spouting off info about guns and most of it was true... no he is from jersey and moved here about 2 years ago so i was mildly impressed...

heres where it goes wrong..

he tells the guy that he needs to get his licence to buy a firearm before he can buy it... and he needs to get his lctf too... so i chimed in and told him it wasnt true... there is no licence to buy a firearm in PA...

"Oh, Really?? so your saying i can just go and buy a gun right now?"

"Yup, as long as your not a prohibited person..."

"thats not true, my buddy is a cop and he said you have to go through a background check and then get waitlisted"

"again that is also not true... there is no wait to buy a firearm unless you get flagged through pics"

so i informed the guy who is thinking of getting the ltcf that he should go and get it even if he doesnt have a gun....

guy 2 chimes in

"well why do you need that if he is just going to take it to the range?"

so now i proceded to ask guy 2 if he ever stopped for gas or to grab a drink on the way to or back from the range with his pistol...

and he says to me

"yeah i usually get gas on the way"

so i told him he just broke the law.... and he argues the fact that its legal to do that....

so i pointed him in this direction and hopefully he comes on here or actually reads the law.... because id hate to see someone in trouble for their own ignorance....

He's coming from the PRNJ, so that is what he's used to. It took my friend six months to get his firearms purchasers identification card. Imagine if you had to go through that to practice free speech.

I hate when people misunderstand and twist simple conversations. I'm sure the cop said something like, "When you go to purchase a firearm, they will perform a background check, and you can be wait listed."

In PA, I see nothing in the statute that prohibits you from stopping for gas while on the way to or from a range or target shooting AND you are transporting WITHOUT a LTCF, PROVIDED that the weapon is transported per 18 Pa.C.S. § 6106, (b), (4). It does not say that you must be going directly to or from the range, without stopping. What if you're driving from the Philly area to Erie and have to stop for gas (or a piss stop) along the way?

Otherwise, big (+) for directing him (them) here for the skinny.

Now, in the PRNJ, that's a different story.

The rifle, a box of ammo, for less than a C note, from K Mart, and

It's also a distinct possibility that the "cop" in question is from the PRNJ, and as such would be citing statutes that are only applicable there, or at least aren't applicable here.

i was under the understanding that you were allowed to go from home to range, range to home, home to gunshop/smith/ and smith to home..atleast thats what i remember being told by one of the higher ups here when i first joined... i always thought it was rediculous you couldnt stop to take a piss without breaking the law but then again there are much worse laws in effect than that..
