I wanted to draft a letter to my local CLEO. I looked back through the archives a little, and hadn't found any good example of a form letter. So I'm gonna draft something, and you guys can post revisions, and if the end result doesn't suck then I'll ask to get it stickied. My first attempt, I know, will be exceedingly sparse.

I am writing you today to ask where you and your department stand on the matter of the open carry of firearms in our (county, twp, region, state). Before you respond, please find attached a short flyer, in .pdf (adobe acrobat) format, containing selected excerpts from Pennsylvania law. I also feel compelled to advise you that your this letter, along with your response, will be posted to the bulletin boards of the Pennsylvania Firearms Owners Association (found at www.pafoa.org) and Open Carry Dot Org (www.opencarry.org) in order to inform my fellow lawful firearm users regarding the state of our fine Commonwealth.

[This part I'm not sure it's wise to put in.] In accordance with American common law, where anything not specifically forbidden by law is then considered to be de facto legal, receiving no response from your department will be considered a tacit admission of the legality of lawful open carry and a statement of your department's willingness to let those who choose to do so go forth without undue harrassment by your officers.

I am glad that you are interested in making your CLEO in your area aware of OC. And I would suggest using the training memo already posted above. It is a very nice piece.

Y'know, I knew that bulletin was there, but I'm more curious to sound him out before I send him that.

I know it's my right, and my rights are sacred, and I'd pave the road to victory with the bodies of slain enemies etc... but people are more apt to listen if you're nice to them

Anyway, I sent out an email like my OP to the CLEO of my township.. and if I don't get a response from that I'll send one certified mail, along with PA Patriot's doc.

More word on this when/if they respond.

No I'm just a fan of the Stern show. I've been kicking around the idea of OC in Havertown but for right now I'm more comfortable concealing. Please keep me posted if you get a reply.
