Default "the greatest single battle implement ever devised by man."

I have had my M1 for a few weeks now, but just got around to post some pics. Bought it used. It's a repo I know that for sure, but don't know when it was made. If anyone could give that info that would be great. serial number: 7100995 I have not got to fire it yet because of this dam crappy weather. Also I don't know why but it looks like someone took a black sharpie to the serial number. What would be the best way to get that off with out harming the finish?

Lightly wet a washcloth and just rub that marker off.

"Brand new M1 Garand serial #7,000,000 est.?
Hey guys, just today my father bought a Springfield armory M1 garand. The serial number marks in the 7 millions. The dealer told us that it was a brand new batch produced in 2007 and they only produced 5000 of them. The gun is in immaculate condition and has never been fired. What is the value of this rifle?"

    Best I could find.

Yeah, these are the new production ones from Springfield Armory, they sell for around 900-1200 new at gun shows, they made limited runs in 2007, 2008 and 2009 as well but ceased all production afterward in favor of focusing on the M1A's.

Believe it or not, using simple rubbing alcohol on a paper towel will get that off and wouldn't harm your finish.

Thumbs up Re: "the greatest single battle implement ever devised by man."

Nice looking Garand there. But you do know Patton died BEFORE the M14 was created....cuz after he saw the improvements to the Garand he would have exclaimed, "Damn! I guess you can improve upon perfection!"

Going by the thread title, I was pretty confused when I didn't see pictures of an AK47 in this thread.

    *sigh...*

    Nice M1.

It prolly wouldn't, but rubbing alcohol does contain lanolin.
I am not sure I want that lanolin residue on my guns.
You would be just fine with 80% (or higher) ipsopropyl alcohol or denatured alcohol.
