Default Got a interesting transfer question.

My friend who is from NY has a 10/22 that he got from his uncle when he passed on. He doesn't shoot it and would like it to go to someone that will take care of it or in his words "do something with it". I know he got the rifle in NY and later moved to Pa about 10 yrs ago, now I told him I would like to have the rifle. Now can we do a FTF being he is a Pa resident or do I have to go to a FFL because it is from NY?

You can do a FTF transfer because it's a long arm and you're both Pennsylvania residents*.

    * Assuming you're not legally prohibited from owning firearms.

It doesn't matter where (local) the gun came from. As long as the owner is now a PA resident, he can sell, trade, or give away a long arm (rifle or shotgun) to any other PA resident with no paperwork required (as long as he has no reason to suspect that the person receiving it is prohibited from owning a gun). A handgun on the other hand has to be transferred through a FFL or a Sheriff (but again, it doesn't matter where the gun came from).
