Ammo prices to go up

Spoke to LGS this evening, was dismayed to hear ammo prices going up almost 15%. Was wondering if this was local or something across the board. Would be interested to hear from others what they find....

I heard on GunTalk with tom gresham, 10% hike in a few days and again in june. blame raw material.

queue panic buying, ammo shortage, and actual price increases due to speculation...


I hate it when this crap happens. One person mentions "price increase", and everyone runs around buying up every box, creating a shortage, and raising prices even more...

It's not speculation when the store tells me that "Ammo prices are going up tonight 15%", it does compel me to buy extra rounds that will cost me more the next day (as Im going to buy the ammo anyway, may as well get for as low a price as possible).

I mean the stores and suppliers that distribute the info. Whether it is expected to go up or not, all they are trying to do is gain more profit. They know that when people hear "prices going up", that most go out and spend hundreds of dollars to stock up on ammo before the price goes up to much. They're essentially creating their own stimulus...

Lol Not a bad idea... I have a few thousand .223/5x56 brass laying around... might as well throw them up for sale and take advantage of the situation..

If the ammo manufacturer's were really concerned about raw materials, especially with brass, they'd start a program of returning brass directly to them so it could be re-manufactured into new rounds. We send our spent brass back to them, they add funds to a "gift card" so we can buy more.

It would be a great way that if you don't reload on getting something back, including all that .22lr that you can't do much else with.

I would say "suggest that to them", but that isn't what they want. They want to be able to raise... I'm sorry, "stimulate" their prices whenever and however they want.

Honestly though, that's a great Idea... I can't tell you how much brass I've left laying at the range over the years, just because it isn't really worth picking it up, or sifting through everything... If this was the case, I would take the extra time to do so, and send it back.
