    Exclamation 3 point jam on a 1911

I picked up a SA 1911 from a buddy of mine who only shot a couple of rounds through while he owned it.
I am new to shooting, and the gun jammed on me several times.
I brought it back to my buddy, who is very OCD! and very meticulous with his guns.
He told me the gun was experiencing a "3 point jam" he worked on the gun doing what springfield told him to do, but it didn't work.
We sent it back to Springfield for the fix, with a detailed letter explaning the ftf and the steps taken to repair it.
what can i expect now, how long will they have the gun?
what will they do to repair it?
what kind of reputation do they have for repairs of this nature?
    Is this a warranty repair?
Any info would be greatly appreciated, i really like the gun, but i don't want to keep it if i will always be second guessing it.

It is Springfield Armory, dude, you can relax. They will get it figured out and it should be no cost to you unless your friend got to tinkering too much. People with OCD tend to do that sometimes. Just take a look at some of my guns that don't work anymore. OCD.

Perhaps there was a reason he was selling it.

this is a very good friend, who was financing a new motorcycle.
that's why i bought it from him, it was not abused he just never really shot it
    he has many 1911's.
He took it back and called Springfield himself, did what they told him, then he sent it to them (and paid the shipping) to make it right, he is more upset than i am!
His character has never been in question.

Shouldn't these be questions that your friend asks Springfield Armory?

I've never heard of a 3 point jam. There are many ways to describe a malfunction or failure, do you have anything more specific?

Sounds to me like the extracteor let go of the spent shell and the slide tied to push a fresh round into the back of the spent round causing the fresh round to be half way out of the mag lips so the mag would not drop free.
I'm guessing but this is what I think he means.
