You need to contact a local NJ FFL dealer and ask him how much to transfer the gun over to you.
Legally, you are not allowed to buy a pistol or a rifle face to face in PA if you are form out of state."One must be a fox to recognize traps, and a lion to frighten wolves” ~ Machiavelli

Re: Is it leagel to buy a gun in pa if i live in nj
I recently sold a handgun to someone from NJ and it was a bit of a pain. I had to transfer the gun to a local PA FFL and pay them $20 to ship it to his NJ FFL and then his NJ FFL transferred it to him once he received the permit for it.

one of the things you'll be wanting to do, as a new user, is READ the STICKIES in the various forums.
stickies are the threads pinned at the top of each forum

Re: Is it leagel to buy a gun in pa if i live in nj
There is one way as a NJ resident to buy a firearm in PA and take it back. If you fill out the paperwork for a Curios and Relics license then after you receive it you would be able to buy a C&R eligible firearm face to face in any state and take it back to your home state with you, though depending on the state you may or may not have to register it and submit some sort of fee. This may not be what you want since there is a limited selection of C&R items and there aren't many modern firearms on the list, but it is an option that you have.

Re: Is it leagel to buy a gun in pa if i live in nj
There is a lot of misinformation in this thread already:
Ricochet: Got it right.
Bionic Man: By law, your handgun did not need to ship from an FFL, only needed to ship to a NJ FFL. It was the receiving FFL's policy only to receive from another FFL, not the law.
EMSjeep: The FPID is for purchase of long guns only, from an FFL in any state, providing the laws of both states are followed.
JayBell: Great suggestion
PSUfan14: In order to have a C&R license in NJ, you must also have a NJ dealer's license. There are precious few C&R licenses in NJ because there is little to be gained. You still have to jump through all the regular hoops, just as if you did not have the C&R license. About the only thing you gain is the dealer discount from places like Brownell's. A NJ resident, with a FPID, can buy a NJ compliant long arm in any state, providing the laws of both states are followed. Handguns must be delivered through an FFL in the purchaser's state of residence.
I think that covers it.

Touched on briefly already...but don't forget you'll need a Handgun Purchase Permit.

Sounds like less hassle for the OP just to become a PA resident

Re: Is it leagel to buy a gun in pa if i live in nj
i'm a PA resident and this is what i did when selling firearms to NJ residents:
handgun: met the buyer at a gunshop in NJ and completed transfer
rifle: met the buyer at a gunshop in NJ and completed transfer
when i purchased a rifle from a shop in NJ the FFL had to ship it to a FFL in PA where i pikced it up.
you can buy a pistol in PA if you're a NJ resident but the gun has to be shipped to a NJ gunshop which then transfers the gun to you. i believe you can buy a rifle in PA as a NJ resident as long as you have the FOID card for rifles.
