Question Can I buy a gun with a record as a minor?

I have a record but nothing as an adult? Will I pass the PIC or have trouble when I go to purchase my first handgun?

It really all depends, were you charged as a youthful offender or as a adult? I have some serious convictions, but since I was charged as a minor they don't appear on the background checks.

I'm not actually sure what the actual charges were. I was 15 and the public defender handled it all. But it was definitely charged as a minor and it does not qualify as a conviction for the purposes of backround checks relating to employment, etc.

Thumbs up Re: Can I buy a gun with a record as a minor?

Thanks, that was what I wanted to know. Do you know if any specific offenses are barring as a minor?

What is the minimum conviction when adult that would bar someone from owning a gun?

If it was breaking and entering, grand theft, aggravated assualt, an offense involving a gun, or any of the same degree or worse, Yes !

If it was a drug charge as in {Possession} and you went to classes or rehab and the charges were dropped or exponged you should be able to purchase. If it was intent to deal that's a R.I.C.O. statute violation and if you were 16 or older they considered you an adult ! That would give you a problem for the rest of your life !
A Concealed Carry Permit may still be a problem but that too can be reversed.
You can hire a lawyer, or wait a year and try again. Sometimes after waiting a year or two, they change their mind. It depends on who's doing the issuing.
You Can Take My Gun When You Pry it From My Dead, Cold, Hand !

Well then, with all due respect, maybe you shouldn't own a gun.

By the time you're 15, you should be aware of things like that.

I'm not trying to start an argument, but gun owners have to be responsible and aware of what's going on, and if you might have gone to jail or juvie without even knowing why, that's not a good sign. Not everyone is suited to owning a gun.
