    Default The Beast .500S&W

Ok...this is a monster, but I love to shoot it. However, my wallet recoils more than the the firearm does. So, i've decided that this is going to be the first caliber I reload. Hasn't anybody done large caliber revolver reloading before or even this caliber? I'd be interested in hearing some of the experiences. In my lyman reloading manual is says to use large rifle primers...which I find funny. Will all the brass be primed with these regardless of brand?

I do a bunch or reloading for the 500. You Can send me an e-mail any time and I'll let you know what I know. Current cost for me is around 35 cents a round in a plated bullet loaded. Yes they do use Rifle primers. They used to use pistol primers but the hot loads were burning through the primers causing firing pin failure. All cases marked with a "R" on the bottom are designated rifle primer. Btw I have some recipies for some real light loads. Almost feels like shooting a 38 special.

I've made light loads with trail boss but they ended up being a waste of a bullet only 1000fps travels about 60yards.
My load currently is 375gr barnes over 42gr or H110. I find this to be not for the faint of heart. I am going to work up something with 2400 next since it recoils less with my 44 mag. Like you this is the round that made me start reloading but it's still the least fired gun I have my rounds are last I checked about $1.75 a shot.
