Default Just got a new Ruger Gunsite Scout...Now what!?

For anybody not familiar with the rifle:
    http://www.ruger.com/products/gunsit...le/models.html

It has a Picatinny rail as well as integral scope rings which require the removal of the rear sight.

Ideally, I'd like to scope the rifle up using the rail and allowing the use of the iron sights still. I know this has its drawbacks as I will have to use a scope mount that is higher than ideal. Additionally, since it is a scout style rifle with a forward mounted rail, I imagine I will need something with good eye relief.

I prefer fixed scopes with a mil dot reticle if possible. The local range is only 100 yards and I figure due to the 16 1/2" barrel the distance won't go much beyond 500 yards anyway. So lets say 500 yards is our furthest distance goal.

Any suggestions on the rings and or glass/optics? I am a complete newbie to this rail thing.

You will need an EER optic and most of them have lower magnification. I do not believe I have ever seen a mil dot in an EER...I may be wrong on this, so research for yourself.

    Leupold
    Nikon
    Burris
    Weaver

make EER optics...I'm sure I missed some.

I like the Ruger Scout...nice and light...for rings I'd get something QD so you can use the irons quickly. I'd go with Larue, ADM, Bobro....not an inexpensive option, but they are solid.

I am kind of set on mildot. I looked at all of the scope manufacturers listed here as well as some others.

It looks like Bushnell and Millett both make something that looks like what I want.

What are the opinions of these models?

It looks like the Millett stuff has better eye relief. I can't exactly tell the difference between the models though. I am not particularly scope savvy.
