Default .22 auto recommendations for range fun

I'm looking for recommendations for a .22 auto that's fun to shoot at the range and doesn't take an engineering degree to break down to clean it. It should be reliable, well balanced and upgradeable so I can add/change things so I don't get bored with it. Don't want anything too expensive but I guess I'd pay up to $500 for something I really liked but hopefully less. If you already know who has the best price/stock or a great mod or scope to go with a certain pistol don't hesitate to mention that too.

    Thanks in advance!

I have a Ruger Mk III that I use for indoor target. It comes with a Weaver rail, so you can put a red-dot or a scope on it. I've used it with both and prefer the 2X20 scope. I also added Volquartsen target grips. I will grant you that the Ruger takes a bit to break down for cleaning, but it's something that is easy to learn after the first few times.

The Ruger handles well, is very accurate and will last a long time. I recommend it.

I'll second the Ruger, no matter what you get (Mark I, II, or III, whichever you can find) they are great shooting guns. I've owned a number of them over the years and none gave me anything but great service. I have two right now (one is suppressed).

Ruger w/ a bull barrel or Browning Buckmark. Both are great guns and will not do you wrong. Whatever you decide, remember to buy tons of extra magazines w/ a loader. It really makes a difference at the range.

Any Ruger and any Buckmark. You will not go wrong. I had my MK III at the range today and was bouncing a 20 oz coke bottle at 50 yards.

Add another Ruger or Buckmark to the vote.

I have 2 Mark series. I can keep 1-3" groups at 50 yards all day long with iron sights on the 10" barrel. I have a Red Dot on the Mark III and can do the same, faster.

I have heard good about a SW but I can't remember the name, it looks similar to the Buckmark, but a little more futuristic, his was black and like a neon blue.

Sig P226 Classic which is a full on 226 frame but with the 22 conversion slide on it. The. When you've had your fun with the 22, you can buy the 9, .357 sig or 40 slide and then you'll have 2 guns in one.
Guns don't kill people, it's mostly the bullets.

Yep Ruger or Buckmark. I have a P22 and a Buckmark. I'll take either over the P22 any day. Although my P22 is quieter with the can on it than the Buckmark with a can.
