22 plinker
I'm new, so first i'll throw out a hello. second i'll ask advise. i'm looking for a 22 plinker semi-auto pistol. i'm looking at the smith and wesson 22a or the ruger mark II. which is your choice and why?

Re: 22 plinker
I know you didnt ask for other options but heres an idea with my reasoning behind it. Today I shot a friends GSG 1911 from ATI Imports. Here is a link http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/p...ducts_id/62297 It is a dedicated 22lr and shot very well. I was not in the market for another handgun but this did start the wheels turning. The reason I think it is worth mentioning to you is that while both the Smith 22a and Ruger Mark series are great pistols they (to me) feel very different than most other guns you may be eventually shooting or buying. I happen to love 1911s and found this gun more natural to use than my Ruger Mark 3. I dont think you can go wrong with a Smith or Ruger but stay open to other ideas as well. Have fun choosing and keep us updated.

Re: 22 plinker
Check the S&W 22A before you buy it.

I love the MkII. A little tricky to strip and clean the first time but an absolute tack driver. Browning Buckmarks are worth a look too if you are interested. I can't comment on the Smith as I don't own one nor have I shot one.

Re: 22 plinker
I have a Ruger MKIII, Ruger MKII, Walther P22 and a Ruger Charger. I like em all, but between the MKII and MKIII, I think I prefer the MKIII due to easier mag release (plus it has a Red Dot). The Walther P22 is nice light weight, small and works fine for plinking or training, plus you can adapt a silencer to it quite easily. The Ruger Charger I have set up with Red Dot, aftermarket tactical stock with stock Bipod .... its fun too. IF you only wanted one... you should evaluate what you want to ultimately do with it..... hence why I have a few.

Re: 22 plinker
The wife and i have the S&W22A-1 pistols. 5 1/2'' bull barrel,10 round mag.
We have shot around 8000 rounds or more ea.They are very accurate easy too
shot.I have shot both the Ruger Mark11 and the Browning Buckmark.I liked
the S&W feels better in my hand.I think Cabela's have the 22A-1 on sale for
199.95. Stay away from Remington 22LR 525 bulk packs of ammo they suck.
Hope this helps. Good Luck
