Actually, it was KY, and one of the reasons I chose that one was because of KY's carry laws. I also lived in Louisville for a few years, so it was nice to go back for a visit.

That's the only NRA convention I've ever been to. I would like to go to the one in Pittsburgh too, but only when I've confirmed what the deal on carry is going to be.

Here is a email i sent and received from the convention center.

    Hello,

Can you please tell me if there are any restrictions on carrying firearms into the Convention Center/Booth area for the 2011 NRA Convention? Thank you in advance.

    Thank you,

    Ted

Ted- As long as you follow PA state law, the same restrictions would apply here. Debbie

NO one carried ANY firearms back in 2004 at the Pittsburgh convention OC or CC (CC unless you didn't tell anyone) the NRA didn't do anything to change the policy before or since their NRA's event in Pittsburgh.

So how did the firearm ban change? magic

Its been a on going problem for years with the Convention Center and The NRA.... DIDN'T DO ANYTHING TO CHANGE THE POLICY before or after the 2004 their NRA event, so much for that myth.

Here is who fought for your rights it was the Allegheny County Sportsmen League once again NOT the NRA and it was done in less than a week.

From the March 2009 ACSL Legislative Committee Report written by Kim Stolfer

    http://acslpa.org/mar09lcr.pdf

    Convention Center Rescinds ‘NO
GUNS’ Policy in Agreement With ACSL

The David L. Lawrence Convention Center, a component of
the Sports and Exhibition Authority (SEA), has maintained a “No
    Guns Policy”
over the years that has been the subject of
numerous complaints to the ACSL. The SEA oversees the
operations of this complex as well as every major sports venue
plus others as part of the joint ownership of these facilities by the
City of Pittsburgh and Allegheny County.

This policy has been kept in place even to the chagrin of the
NRA convention that was held here in Pittsburgh several years
ago. Now it is at an end.

As an entity owned and controlled by local government, the
SEA and all of its’ facilities are governed by the limitations of
authority as specified in PA Law and the Home Rule Charter.
This being the case there is ‘no authority’ for the SEA to have in
place a policy of denying citizens their right to defend themselves
OR to place them in jeopardy of ignoring this policy and facing
    potential arrest and prosecution.

The ACSL Legislative Committee was informed of this policy
by a WCO from the PA Fish and Boat Commission the Monthly
ACSL meeting preceding the Sport, Travel and Outdoor Show.
We were told that they were even denying these officers their
lawful duty to carry their sidearms in uniform.

We contacted numerous entities within local government
throughout the day on Friday without reaching any agreement or
even a recognition of the problem. Therefore through the
weekend preparations were made with Attorney Mike
McCormick to stop this policy with an injunction IF necessary.

The following Tuesday we were contacted by the manager of
the Convention Center just hours before the injunction was to be
filed to discuss this situation. The manager was polite and
courteous and after hearing all of the issues involved readily
agreed to rescind this policy, in writing, thus negating the need to
involve the courts and unnecessary legal costs to the ACSL.

We would like to thank Allegheny County Chief Executive
Dan Onorato’s staff for their help in convincing the necessary
individuals to recognize the importance of eliminating this policy.

So anyone that carries at the Pittsburgh Convention Center make sure you thank the ACSL that is REALLY responsible for protecting your firearms rights in PA as they are the one that got the policy changed.

    http://acslpa.org/

Drop the ACSL a note saying you appreciate their effort defending your firearm rights, the ACSL does more than most people know fighting for your rights in all areas of the outdoors.

Make sure you keep a copy of this ACSL report in case your city tries pulling the same scam.

    .

Nice job theo for taking the offensive by going directly to the source to ask the question. Been waiting for someone to do this first before posting the rest of the story... of why now you can do what the NRA members couldn't do back in 2004 at the NRA convention. Cause the NRA will probably give ZERO credit to who did what they wouldn't do to protect yourself

I found it very funny that at the convention this year NRA members could not carry into the convention center. So much for standing up for their principles.

    Thats why i joined GOA.

The NRA does stand up for your rights.

I know one thing, if I keep hearing the FOAC bash the NRA I will not be participating in any of it.

I work hard with NRA, and try my best with FOAC.

The NRA and FOAC are two different animals.

If the FOAC walked into the Federal facilities trying to deal with congressmen they would get laughed at.

Who is filing court briefs and handling the court cases, not the FOAC they do not have enough money, the NRA is. Now I have tried to keep respectful.. but this constant bashing is going to cause you to lose people who may help gain strength in both orgs.

You guys of all people know it takes volunteers, hard work dedication at the grass roots level. Yes the NRA sucks at Grass roots, you guys are good at it. Work together to get what is needed.

The NRA is a very powerful organization, not perfect, but respectful.

There is also something called property rights.

You are not allowed to carry at any of the stadiums.
You are not allowed to carry at many places and it is your decision an not your property.

What if I invited people to my home and said you could not carry, but I could?

Do you think the FOAC could even put on an event as large as the NRA convention, no.

The idea is to work together, no against each other.

This bashing between PRO GUN Organizations is horse crap.

I hope to attend the NRA Convention in Pitt because I would enjoy the experience and do not have the chance to do this all the time.

Work together and stop shooting your friends in the foot.

I thought it was the Second Amendment Foundation and not the NRA who has been planning, paying for and winning these court cases?

Collaborative efforts on many cases, many issues.

    Usually not just one org.

Like Philly, Pitt, and other cases across the country.

California - high school kid expelled for duck hunting,

    Too many to list.

    http://www.nraila.org/News/Read/News....aspx?ID=13958

    Multiple plaintiffs and legal representatives.

How about all of the training programs people use to earn money? Where are they from, the NRA.

How about the Eddie the Eagle Program in VA?

Many many things across the US.

Support all of them to a degree. None are 100% right all the time. I have not found one.
