Re: Introduction+question about discharging firearm
Choice of words came off to me as being a tool. He may be the most informative but doesn't make up for that. Never thought firearms was a game, or even had the slightest thought of it. If I was the person he's making it seem I am, wouldn't I have just gone out and shot it on my own with no regard of anything? No, I came here asked the question. Yeah, I was going to be so happy about buying my first firearm and wanted to fire it once.

Re: Introduction+question about discharging firearm
You said in your intro post that you "had a thick skin " ( paraphrasing ) from spending lots of time in a BMW Forum that has regular flame fests, yet you cant recognize sarcasm when you see it posted ?
GL IS "a tool " !! (sorry Phil ) The best damn tool in the box when it comes to Firearms Laws in PA !
You would be VERY wise to listen to what he has to say and laugh at his occasional acerbic wit.Si vis pacem, para bellum

Re: Introduction+question about discharging firearm
I would listen to anyone with advice on this forum, always open to listening. I can take what he's got, I was never mad, I was simply replying to what he said, in the same way I felt his was aimed at me.
Side note, I would go to the class he is holding, however I don't like being around a group of people I don't know, get nervous. Agoraphobia at it's best, :/

Re: Introduction+question about discharging firearm
There are several on this forum who won't mince words, GL is one of them. When these people state their mind, and those words are heard, it isn't about flaming anyone but rather making a point without doubt to the meaning. Have no worries, these same people will give you positive reinforcement too. You have a lot to learn and have come to the right place for it but some of the lessons might be a tad rough. Just man up and hear what the older heads have to say....it will make you a far better owner and in some cases save your life. Your doing fine, take the lessons for what they are, lessons.
I understand your question about where you can shoot. You had no clear idea. Now you do.....the learning has begun, stick with it.When the SHTF......be the fan.

Re: Introduction+question about discharging firearm
I remember like 15-20 years ago, going in the yard at at my uncles which was a housing development in Collegeville, the end of the airport landing strip was at the back of the house.. We would shoot in the yard.. There was a creek, then a hill going up to the road and across was the end of the airport strip.. So we were always shooting down and into the bank. Still didn't stop the neighbors, or mostly the airport from calling the cops.. We'd be there shooting the 22's and a cop would come walking across the yard.. Would be a small discussion, and the guns would have to go away.. Uncle would wait about 30mins, then bring out one of his big hunting rifles and destroy our targets.. making MUCH more noise than a 22 ever did.. LoL. Can't do that now I'm sure.
anstead, join a club.. Join before you purchase a firearm, and take any classes they offer. I'm not sure Gunlawyer's class would be right for you initially. But from your posts of using a firearm to shoot someone harming your dog or car or house.. Maybe you should understand how the laws work also. Just so when you are being hauled off to jail, you know why.
From your own words, you prob should not own a firearm.. Stick to the pellet guns. And find a range that will rent a gun.. Suck it up and get off the antisocial bs.

Re: Introduction+question about discharging firearm
Normally if I met someone strange I would just leave. I would be going with a friend or 2 of mine so I would be alright there then. I just can't be alone in a group of people I don't know.
I put a downpayment on an AR, I owe 600, was 700. Going to pick it up this week or next week.

Re: Introduction+question about discharging firearm
To OP, I think you should do a lot of research before getting a gun. I do not mean to say you are unfit to own one but I fear you may get yourself into some trouble based on some of the things you said. Yes I know you are on a gun owners forum asking questions but it seems you are only hearing part of what is being said to you. There are many things to learn and you can't get all the information in one place. When I was in my early 20's I decided to exercise my 2a rights but after some deep contemplation I decided to wait a while because I did not think I was ready. A few years later I bought my first gun. I was not raised around guns so the extra wait gave me the proper grounding to become a responsable gun owner.
Some people just plain suck.
