M&p15, new comp, help!
So I bought a compensator online for my budget build m&p15 sport. Has anyone taken their flash hider off? I don't believe it has a set screw. What sized open end wrench works best? Or is there another tool I should be using?
Thanks for the help!

Barrel jaws in a good vise, are you asking wrench size because you don't have a set? Get new crush washers the kind that peal. If you get the armorers tool you can use a torque wrench for install of new one.

Re: M&p15, new comp, help!
I just used a regular old adjustable wrench.
I didn't have any luck getting the timing right on the new muzzle device, using a standard crush washer. Just couldn't manage to crush it.
Ended up getting this shim kit, which offers various thickness washers that you can mix-and-match until you get the correct timing."There are four boxes to use in the defense of liberty: soap, ballot, jury, ammo. Use in that order."

Re: M&p15, new comp, help!
The M&P was built by the manufacturer with budget as a primary consideration.
Probably quite a few people have done this.
No, it does not employ a set screw.
The one that actually fits. If you are removing the old one from the barrel, there is no need to put the upper in a vise block. Lay the rifle on its side, on the work bench (kitchen table), and firmly hold it down while wrenching the FH. FHs are not put on uber-tight.
