    All you guys with the red headed Russians. I got myself a blond russian, just to be different. Actually, after sanding it down, I just clear coated it.

    Fast forward almost another year. I'm into coat #4 of the poly, and am really impressed with the look of the once-nasty wood. I never would've thought to use food coloring, but it was a snap. Thanks and cheers to the OP. Once the wood furniture is completed, I have a feeling it's really going to highlight the flaws in the crappy Romanian finish on the rifle itself. I'm determined not to turn an AK into one of my multiple money pits...
