    Default Rest stop interaction.

Well, the group shoot was today. Had a blast, as usual. This happened on the way back. At the rest stop on 79 near grove city.

I'm walking in to visit the little boys room. "Hey, hey buddy." I turn and look. Youngish guy. Maybe mid 20s, one earphone in, listening to an ipod or some such.

    Me: "Yes?"
He: "You can't take your gun in there."
    Me: "Why not?"
He: "This is a state run building."
    Me: "And?"
He: "Well, it's a state run building."
Me: "Well, it isn't a federally run building, and isn't one of the few locations where carry is not allowed."
He: "Well I'm just trying to look out for you, in case the cops come. I don't care what you do."
Me: "Well, if any of the officers have gotten their 2009 MPOTEC training, I'll be fine."
He: "Well, I just wanted you to know that I didn't care."

I continue in, take a tinkle, and laugh about it the rest of the ride home.

One of my few "less than pleasant" encounters.

Though misguided by misinformation, this was a good encounter!

He didn't want the man coming down on you!

Yoiu should have shot back with something like this:
"But it's loaded and I'm going in there to empty it. Oh, wait, you meant my firearm, didn't you?" Then on the way out, "excuse me, why are you standing outside the men's room ogling other guys equipment? Are you a pickle park princess?"

Sounds pretty good (although from the title of the thread, I was afraid that it might be about a very different sort of man-on-man encounter.)

Others may prefer a more adversarial response to questions and challenges like this. But winning over the people on the sidelines of the gun debate, requires that we be the more appealing side. If you can't come across as someone that would be cool to have a beer with, if you can't project a better personality than Chuck "both ends what a player" Schumer or Sarah "look who I can wheel out for display" Brady, then you are not helping the cause.

The anti-gunners are "haters", they can't escape that truth. So we have an advantage from the get-go. We're mostly pleasant, hard-working people who really just want to be left alone, while they are intrusive and angry assholes who want to force everyone else to act in ways that make them comfortable in their phobias and prejudices.

So this was good. A stranger advises you to stop doing something because he believes it could result in your arrest; you then correct him. Sounds like amiable good will all around.

Misinformed wannabee. Prolly wants to be a big man and own and carry, but his liberal Prius driving boy girl friend won't let him. Might be telling him right now how he had a showdown with a guy with a gun and turned his back on him after putting him in his place.

At least he had contact with a nice guy with a gun.
