How to get Permit to carry?

I'm interested in obtaining a protection permit for my pistol. I'm a resident of Butler County, Pennsylvania. I was told to go to the Sheriff's office and fill out a form but I was curious if anyone knew what all costs are associated with obtaining one. I.E. fingerprints, processing fees, etc. And what all information I need to take to the Sheriff's office? Do they need the serial number off of my pistol or any other information? Any help on this matter would be greatly appriciated.
